What to Expect from the Jen the Pen Blog

April 15, 20243 min read

“Want to know what my blog will be about? So do I.”

Here's the thing: I love to learn - and it can be hard for me to make decisions for my own brand.

I've thought long and hard about what I want my blog to be about, and I keep coming up empty. Why? For the same reason my "niche" was chosen. I like doing all the things.

I don't want to get tied down in any one direction. (Remember, I'm of the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC generation.)

So here are some things that my blog
might be about - feel free to come along for the ride!

1. Highlighting Industry Professionals (Interviews)

I've had the honor of meeting some cool people, both online and in real life. I want to tell you all about them, so there will likely be blogs with direct quotes from some of them, interviews, etc.

Most recently, I participated in a Compost Content Challenge with Tim Steckel, and I'd love to share what I've learned from some of the connections I met through that.

LinkedIn is an endless supply of content, though - so I will probably be reaching out to several people in the next few months to pick their brains and feature them on my blog.

2. Checking Out Awesome Finds in the Prescott Area (Reviews)

I recently joined the Prescott Chamber of Commerce, and last year, I wrote on a travel blog in the Prescott area. There are so many amazing sights and sounds nearby, and I'll want to feature some of the best businesses in my area.

I've begun taking my kids out for fun days on Thursdays - so I'm going to tell you all about the wonderful new food we've tried (we are addicted to gelato from Limoncello's) and the great stores we enjoy (John's Box of Bricks is phenomenal).

3. Tips and Tricks (Writing, Marketing, Branding, Video, etc.)

As a lifelong writer, I've learned a thing or two about writing. I am also honored to know a wide range of writers as well (I have a writing network), so I'll probably feature some of the great people I know and ask them to share what they've learned about writing.

My goal is to give you a mix of enjoyable and actionable content, so you can be entertained while you're learning something new.

And as much as writers may cringe to think of it, video is now inescapable - so I may feature some of the people who have helped me become more comfortable on camera. (Some of my content might be exclusively video, depending on how comfortable I get!)

4. Creativity, Fun, History, and Humor

I may do a little "show and tell" now and then if you're interested in my latest creative endeavors. I have a lot of creative goals: writing a book or two, learning how to play ukulele better, singing, etc.

One of my favorite clients asked me to make memes for him. It was so much fun. I may share some memes, too! (That escalated quickly - by the time you're reading this, I've already got Andy from Parks and Rec in GIF form on this blog...)

In other words, brace yourself for a chaotic blend of fabulousness. If you know what to expect - aside from fun - from my blog, I ain't doing it right.

5. Marketing, Branding, and Design

Collaborating with marketers, brand experts, and designers is one of my favorite things about being a content writer. I don't have any plans to stop learning the valuable lessons I've picked up about marketing, branding, and design.

I'm always upskilling - so I plan to share what I learn about the world of marketing, branding, and design with you!

FAQS

How can content marketing help my business?

Content marketing enables you to do more with less. Paid ads can be expensive to run - especially if you're chasing high-value keywords.

With organic content marketing, you can pay less money for a greater reward. There is a significant time investment required, however - which is why you should consider hiring me to help with your content marketing efforts!

How do you come up with a content strategy for me?

Before I come up with a strategy, I become your superfan. I use my powers of nosiness (or as I say, "journalistic tendencies") to learn how you position yourself, who your target audience is, and where there are gaps in your content.

If you grant access to analytics tools, I'll use those, too, bringing them to bear on your content goals. Some tools I'm familiar with include Mangools and SEMrush - but I'm happy to dig into other tools like Google Analytics and Go HighLevel.

What makes your content marketing services different?

I take a personal approach to helping businesses. My goal is to serve you and help you attract your target audience, so I won't bog your customers down with jargon or marketing terms. If you've got a question, I'll offer my honest thoughts (even if I think someone else would be better equipped to help you).

I'm here for you - whether or not you choose to work with me. I'll do my best to assist you in any way I can, and if that means passing along voice docs because you've found a better fit elsewhere, I'll do that.

That said, I'm going to do my best to learn as much as possible and keep you as a client - so if there's anything I can do to improve your experience, please let me know. I'm happy to help!

How much do you charge?

During the fall/winter season, my rates are discounted to $65 an hour. If you'd like to order a monthly retainer, the cost is $600 for a maximum of 10 hours.

(My spring/summer rates start at $75 an hour*, but I offer monthly retainers at $700 a month for a maximum of 10 hours.)

Benefits of a retainer:

  • Discounted price

  • I save a spot for you every month

  • Flat rate month to month, notice of rate increase given ahead of time

The first monthly payment is due up front, and prices are subject to change depending on how busy the season is.

What are your brand values?

My brand is centered around these things:

- Creativity. I am a creative person and bring that into everything I do - whether it's content writing or my recreational time.
- Family. I love my family and chose this career path because I want more time with them. My goal is also to give you more time with yours.
- Quality. I have high standards when it comes to the written word, because I know great writing can make a major difference.
- Freedom. We all deserve more freedom to do what we love - it's why neither of us are out here chained to a desk working a 9-5.
- Faith. My faith guides me, and I work best with clients who are aligned to that same faith in Jesus.
